Driving to Key West

About two and a half hours each way. Most of it is like driving along though a two-lane highway lined with businesses. But once in a while there is a nice bridge...

Key West - victory photo...

After about 4400km, we arrived at Key West.

This will be a Sunday Drive to remember

Disney on Friday, 8 July 2011

We spent most of Friday at Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom.

Although Disney specializes in hiding 450 people inside hidden rooms (part of the 'You never see the line-up until you're already well into it' policy), we didn't spend too much time in line-ups.

Kids had a great time.

We have a two day pass, so we will visit again after we get Key West done.

22km from the Space Coast...

...and the traffic just plain stopped. That was it. The reason was obvious - the area ahead was completely full of traffic - right to the coast.

22km to the coast, plus another 10km to the pad, considering the low hanging cloud cover, considering 30% launch odds, hmmm...

So let's go try Disney!!

Space Shuttle tomorrow morning (maybe...)

NASA managers will decide very early Friday morning (at about 1:30am) if they wish to start fueling the Shuttle's external fuel tank at about 2:00am. If the weather looks hopeless (as is very likely), then they'll probably decide not to bother. In that case, the launch would be postponed with plenty of notice to everyone.

So - if not Shuttle, then maybe Disney.

Florida Mall - huge mall, but just try to buy a box of galvanized nails...

This evening we went to Florida Mall with the goal of purchasing food at the food court, hopefully in normal-sized portions. Florida Mall is an enormous high end shopping mall full of stores offering $1,650.00 handbags and $60 boxes of chocolates.

With the traffic and distance, the endless walk to the food court, the long and slow line-ups, etc. - it took almost the entire evening to get supper finished. It's funny that the big-city rush-rush lifestyle takes about three times longer to get things done than it would back home.

Pictures...

Deric finds it difficult to balance the Washington monument on his head...

A few pictures added below...

Finally had time to add pictures to some of the previous posts.

Just a few so far..

Orlando, FL

Altamonte Springs to be specific. Close to cousin's place.

RoomSaver coupon book working well again.

Florida !!

3000+ km later and we're in Florida.

Lunch in an Applebee. While in the USA one must not eat everything on the plate, otherwise the car would be dragging the frame on the road.

Walterboro, SC

Nice drive today. Heavy traffic in a few places, but always moving.

The RoomSaver coupon books are working out fairly well.

5th July

Big drive today - from DC to at least South Carolina.

Happy 4th of July

We spent the day wandering around The National Mall. The museums were all open so we visited the Botanic Garden (fantastic!) and the Smithsonian. We wandered for miles up and down The Mall until Deric's feet gave out.

As of about 4pm we're back at the hotel and the kids are in the pool.
